Rules for Tournaments

 

All Play will be governed by the USGA Rules of Golf, except where modified by local rules.

 

DRESS CODE:  Appropriate golfing attire is required at GCWGA Play Days; tank tops, short shorts, spandex shorts/slacks, cut-off jeans WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. Shoes are required. Host Delegate, member’s club Delegate, Tournament Chairman and/or the President will determine inappropriate attire. Members not in compliance will not be allowed to participate in the Play Day.

 

Soft Spikes are Required at all Clubs

 

DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES: GCWGA has adopted a local rule to approve the use of distance measuring devices for all GCWGA events whether it is printed on the local rule sheet or not. However, the use of devices that measure other conditions that might affect a player’s play (e.g. wind or gradient) is not permitted.

 

WINTER RULES: A ball lying in your OWN “fairway” may be lifted and cleaned without penalty and placed within one scorecard length of where it originally lay, not nearer the hole, and so as to preserve as nearly as possible the stance required to play from the original lie. In areas with large bare spots -- nearest relief not nearer the hole.  APPENDIX 1-3b

 

EMBEDDED BALL: A ball embedded in its own pitch mark through the green may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to the spot where it lay, but not nearer the hole.   RULE 25-2

 

WATER HAZARD: A player who hits two balls into a water hazard, may take an additional penalty stroke and “carry” the ball across to the drop area. (EXAMPLE: On a par three -- after hitting two balls into the hazard, ADD an additional penalty stroke and “carry” the ball across the hazard to drop area. You are lying five (5) and hitting six (6).   GCWGA RULE

 

Any player in doubt of the proper rule procedure shall play a second ball and MUST report the facts of the situation to the Rules Committee before returning his scorecard even if the same score is made with both balls.  If he fails to do so,

he is  disqualified. (New 2004) See Rule 3-3

 

WEATHER DELAY: In the event of lightning or other inclement weather conditions, play will be suspended. At the sound of siren or air horn you MUST mark your ball and immediately discontinue play.

 

PACE OF PLAY: Scorecards not in within 5 hours from start will show as N/C (no card).

 

MAXIMUM HANDICAP: 34
