Minutes – January 9, 2008

President Carol Conover called the meeting to order at 9:11a.m.  The meeting was held at Windance Country Club.

 

The Secretary, Deb Seidel read the December 4, 2007 minutes.  After correction to the minutes a motion was made by Elaine Willins, 2^nd by Deneice King to accept minutes with the one correction.  Motion carried.  (Note: The correction on the December 4, 2007 minutes reads as follows:  It was announced that Mississippi National and Gulf Hills may be increasing the play day fee to $25.00.)

 

The Treasurer, Elaine Willins read the Treasurer’s Report and distributed the 2008 Projected Budget and 2007 Financial Report to delegates and officers.  A motion was made to accept the Treasurer’s Report by Debbie Cumberland, 2^nd by Jerry Grissom.  Motion carried.  Elaine reported we currently had 186 members.

 

Committee Reports:

 

Tournament chairwoman, Julie Hudson conducted the selection of 2008 play dates.  Various clubs reported their Invitational Tournament Dates.

 

Julie Hudson asked everyone to please inform their members to play by the same rules on their ladies’ play days as when they play during GCWGA tournaments.  For example, lift in own fairway only, no removing off roots, etc.  Julie encouraged delegates to “Help” their new members learn the correct rules at their home courses.

 

Old Business:

 

President Carol Conover discussed the letter requesting joint play days with Louisiana Northshore Women’s Golf Association (120 members).  Discussion followed.   The general consensus was that GCWGA members would like to play their courses for the same fees the Louisiana ladies pay to play on their play days.  President Conover informed everyone that the Louisiana Northshore Women’s Golf Association (NWGA) dues are $30 annually and that you are required to join a Louisiana 18-hole Women’s golf group to be eligible to join the NWGA.  It was noted that Abita Springs Women’s Golf Association dues are $30.  Thus, cost is $60, which does not include paying the cart fee at the NWGA participating clubs.  It was decided to not include the Louisiana Northshore Women’s Golf Association at this time because our bylaws state that you have to be a Resident of Mississippi.   There was discussion concerning our Mississippi Courses handling a large number of players and having enough golf carts.  It was suggested if anyone is interested in joining the Louisiana Northshore Women’s Golf Association should contact NWGA directly to join.  There was a Vote taken on “Interest in forming a committee that will check into all the details concerning having joint play days with Louisiana Northshore Women’s Golf Association.  Nine (9) delegates were for this committee to form, 3 opposed.  Vote carried to form a committee - Fay Davis, Carol Conover, and Julie Hudson volunteered.

 

New Business:

 

Carol Conover appointed Janice Preble as Publicity Chairwoman.  Delegates approved it.

 

Charlett Harris was selected as the Nominating Committee Chairman for 2009 Officers.  Delegates are needed to volunteer to be on the committee.  Please see President Conover.

 

Letter read from Great Southern Golf Club to be reinstated into GCWGA.  Motion to accept Great Southern Golf Club back into GCWGA by Deneice King, 2^nd by Kathy Bannister.  All in Favor – Motion carried.

 

Iris Lex made motion to adjourn, 2^nd by Charlotte Harris.
